Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Statistics, Psychology, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with SQL and a programming language used for data manipulation and computational statistics (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, C++, Java, or Go).
  • Experience in product research or an applied research setting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience within User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, an applied research setting, and/or product research and development.
  • Experience in multivariate statistics and the design of experiments.
  • Excellent knowledge of research questions within a given domain and of technical tools for the analysis of data.
  • Proficiency in programming computational and statistical algorithms for large data sets.

About the job

As a User Experience Researcher on the User Experience (UX) team, you will partner with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and Googlers across the company to improve the user experience and drive product excellence. In this role, you will leverage empirical research methods from computer science, quantitative social science, statistics, econometrics, data science, and other fields to understand user behavior and extract meaningful patterns from large data sets. In this role, you’ll combine skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, programming, and human-computer interaction to improve user experience. As a key member of a product team, you’ll work with stakeholders across functions and levels. You’ll solve challenging problems and empower the team to move forward by developing metrics, measuring results, and integrating new methodologies into existing systems. You will provide a UX perspective on quantitative data to help stakeholders understand their users.

Responsibilities

  • Set up capabilities for the team to realize the benefits of Quantitative UX Research. Collaborate with analysts and engineers to understand existing tools and capabilities while designing plans to better utilize and analyze data.
  • Identify research gaps, synthesize research, and develop quantitative or quantitative/qualitative research plans to investigate in-product user behavior. Define and measure quantitative UX goals and metrics in collaboration with cross-functional teammates.
  • Examine existing data and product designs to generate hypotheses and plans for research, conduct statistical modeling and analyses to describe user and customer behaviors, and identify patterns and correlate signals to provide actionable insights.
  • Transform research findings into recommendations and drive change by communicating them to stakeholders. Use methods of research communication to deliver lasting research results. Ensure research findings are actionable for research experts and non-experts.
