Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of professional software development experience or 5 years with an advanced degree.
  • 3 years experience programming in Python.
  • Experience contributing to an open source project.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience leading or maintaining a sizable open source project, specifically with a research or technical framework.
  • Experience in one or more libraries: Cirq, OpenFermion, numpy, scipy, sympy, pandas, protocol buffers, Google Cloud Platform, Qiskit or QASM.
  • Experience in Java and C++.
  • Experience in developer relations or participation in quantum computing consortium. Good familiarity or education in quantum computing.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Machine learning, distributed systems, quantum simulation, quantum chemistry, linear algebra, quantum information, or quantum physics.

The Quantum team's mission is to make useful quantum computing tools available to the world to enable humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. Google AI Quantum is building novel systems that can leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world's largest computers at certain classes of problems.

The team has developed several open source frameworks and libraries, including: Cirq, Qualtran, OpenFermion, TensorFlow, QuantumQsim.

In this role, you will lead development on Google's quantum open source, coordinate efforts between the projects, and grow the contributing community. Work will involve supporting near and intermediate term efforts by maintaining the existing libraries and planning future strategy.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $185,000-$283,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Support improving usability, testability, and discoverability of internal software as well as ensuring parity between internal and external functionality.
  • Coordinate working groups for new features within the quantum group's open source repositories.
  • Direct open source community efforts, including issue triage, code review, vendor coordination and social events. Coordinate open source strategy for the different open source repositories.
  • Steer working groups for improving usability, modularity, and discoverability in our internal code base (client group). Ensure a robust review and continuous integration process across repositories.
  • Develop features independently, improve testing and tooling, and create documentation for user-facing libraries. Gather requirements from researchers to identify needed features and transition research code to open source
