Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Candidates will typically have 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • Candidates will typically have 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Typically 5 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), artificial intelligence, deep learning, or natural language processing.
  • Typically 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Typically 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience developing digital human related projects, such as neural rendering, face/eyes/hand/body tracking, novel view synthesis, face/human generation/capturing, people segmentation, clothing reconstruction, and non-rigid tracking.

As a computer vision scientist you will seek robust solutions to some of the most long-standing recognition problems in machine vision. This role involves extensive research and problem solving that spans a number of areas including computer vision, machine learning, image processing, software engineering, user interaction and product development. Your work will focus on mobile computing, a field which offers unique opportunities as well as unique challenges. You will work collaboratively with a small team that combines research and engineering expertise and you will collaborate with groups across Google to create the next generation of products and solutions that impact millions of users.

The Google AR Perception team builds novel algorithms at the intersection of real-time computer vision, novel sensing, and applied machine learning to enable next generation perception capabilities. As a Research Engineer in the Human Perception team, you will build capture systems to digitize humans, apply neural rendering, learn generative models, and leverage this as a way to enable new capabilities in Google products.

The Platforms and Ecosystems product area encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications). The products provide enterprises, and ultimately end users, the ability to utilize and manage their services at scale. We build innovative and compelling software products—from apps to TVs, from laptops to phones—that have an impact on people’s lives across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop pipelines to build end-to-end perception systems.
  • Optimize algorithm run-time efficiency and integrate into the product platform.
  • Train and evaluate deep learning models.
  • Write production-quality C++ and Python code and tests.
