About the job

Our team is building cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML) and computer vision algorithms to improve video communication across Google products (e.g., see the recently announced Portrait Restore feature at Google I/O). This requires researching and developing novel ML models and optimizing and deploying them for real-time video processing. You will work with researchers and engineers in a fast-paced product-oriented environment, and collaborate with cross-business teams (e.g., Google Research, Core ML, and Workspace).

You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining key infrastructure that will enable us to launch Machine Learning powered video communication across Google.

Project Starline from Google combines advances in hardware and software to enable friends, families and co-workers to feel together, even when they’re cities (or countries) apart. Imagine looking through a magic window, and through that window, you see another person, life-size and in three-dimensions. As part of the Project Starline team, you'll work with researchers and engineers in a fast-paced product-oriented environment. Our teams collaborate closely with Google Workspace and Research teams. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. You will apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can’t.

Responsibilities

  • Design, run, and maintain internal pipelines and tools for data collection and evaluation of ML models for video processing.
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency). Mentor and train other team members on design techniques, and coding standards.
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug, track, and resolve them by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
  • Cross-team collaboration with Meet, Research, Starline, and Continuum teams.
