Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with configuring, managing, and troubleshooting VMware technologies (e.g., vSphere, vSAN, NSX-T, HCX, etc.).
  • Experience managing a virtualized data center infrastructure for an enterprise or a service provider.
  • Experience with working in a startup.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certified with current VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP, VCIX, VCDX).
  • Experience with large-scale Linux production environments, preferably as part of a Cloud service provider environment.
  • Experience in data center virtualization technologies, preferably in VMware product suite (vCenter, ESXi, NSX).
  • Experience with vRealize Automation and vRealize Operations.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and systems, such ITSM (ServiceNow).
  • Proficiency in creating detailed technical design documents, facilitating design reviews, and executing design implementation projects.

As a Technical Solutions Engineer, you will manage and own our customer issues in addition to providing level two support to our other support teams. As a Technical Solutions Engineer, you will be a part of a global team that provides around the clock support to help customers seamlessly make the switch to Google Cloud VMware Engine. When customers cannot resolve issues themselves, your job will be to ensure that we have the necessary tools and processes to resolve the issue. You will troubleshoot technical problems for customers with a mix of debugging, VMware Virtualization, networking, system administration, updating documentation, etc. You will help facilitate the success of Google Cloud VMware Engine by understanding and advocating for our customers’ issues. You may be required to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays, and on shift-based schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer impact and own the customer’s problem, managing escalations through effective diagnosis, troubleshooting, and resolution on VMware workloads on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) products.
  • Collect and analyze technical troubleshooting evidence (e.g., packet traces (tcpdump) heap dumps, thread dumps, operating system statistics for network, memory, processing, and IO systems), to diagnose and resolve VMware deployments on GCP.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders in engineering, sales, and customer experience and also with external partner and customer organizations to resolve technical deployment obstacles and improve VMware on GCP and other products.
  • Interact with our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to drive high-quality production and respond to outages to minimize impact on customers.
  • Understand customer issues and advocate for their needs with cross-functional teams.
