Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a privacy related field (e.g., security engineering, data engineering, data scientist, compliance engineering, etc.).
  • 2 years of experience designing solutions for technological problems that maintain the privacy posture of the organization, leading teams across multiple workstreams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working as a team member with attorneys, Marketing, Public Relations, software developers, security, and program-product managers.
  • Experience scaling or evolving an existing privacy program, or establishing a new program.
  • Experience in machine learning, generative AI, or similar fields.
  • Understanding of Google products and technologies.
  • Familiarity with privacy principles.
  • Passion for protecting our users' privacy.

About the job

As a Privacy Engineer in Search, Assistant, and Bard, you’ll provide input on critical changes to products used by billions of users across the world. You'll have the opportunity to work on Generative AI products like Bard and Search Generative Experiences, while helping to shape the privacy posture of other new and existing products, giving you the chance to brainstorm and implement privacy solutions that scale to some of Google’s most beloved products. You’ll incorporate privacy by design and help develop an early engagement model for Product teams to ensure privacy is considered at every stage of the software development lifecycle.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $157,000-$235,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Guide Engineering teams during product development to ensure that their data collection and usage practices are transparent, protect user privacy, and mitigate risk. Play a critical role in Search Assistant’s product design process and launch cycle.
  • Conduct technical and policy reviews to identify and escalate potential privacy concerns.
  • Lead and manage proactive developments meant to improve our team’s work across all domains in which the team works (e.g., engineering, process, documentation, etc.).
  • Contribute to product/business strategy and public policy and legal initiatives to address and mitigate privacy risks.
  • Contribute to establishing a sustainable data governance and access control framework by establishing standards for data access and conducting reviews on complex cases.
