Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in risk analytics, anti-abuse, fraud detection/prevention, data science, or data analytics.
  • 1 year of experience in people management and/or leading technical teams.
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g. R), database language (e.g. SQL), or scripting languages (e.g. Python).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with statistical methods such as linear modeling, multivariate analysis, and sampling.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: querying and analyzing large datasets (e.g, SQL, MapReduce, Hadoop), statistical analysis (e.g. R, Stata, SPSS, SAS), and/or data-focused programming (e.g. Python, C/C++, Java).
  • Understanding of how the internet works economically, socially, and technically.
  • Ability to lead large-scale projects in a cross-functional team environment, prioritize tasks, and translate ambiguous business questions into strategies.
  • Interest in online security and abuse topics.

The mission of reCAPTCHA is to protect the Internet from spam and fraud, eliminating abusive traffic while at the same time providing a frictionless experience to good users. reCAPTCHA uses advanced risk analytics that take advantage of Google’s intelligence about the web to present adaptive challenges that keep automated software from engaging in abusive activities.

As an Analyst Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in increasing the coverage, accuracy, and speed of reCAPTCHA systems by leading a global team. You will uncover signals of abusive behavior hidden in noisy data and use data science methodologies to close those gaps. You will become an expert in abusive business models, and will help guide the team toward building metrics that accurately reflect the threats facing our users.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of analysts working to identify abusive traffic, design and implement key performance metrics, examine trends, and identify product vulnerabilities.
  • Oversee and perform complex data analyses to identify harmful entities, design and implement key performance metrics, examine trends, and identify system vulnerabilities.
  • Drive prioritization, alignment, and implementation of abuse enforcement initiatives and help the team grow their skills and develop their careers.
  • Improve tools or automation systems by influencing key stakeholders with data and analyses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups such as Engineering, Sales, and Legal to improve system accuracy, fix product loopholes, and provide users with a better online experience.
