About the job

The Quantum team's mission is to make useful quantum computing tools available to the world to enable humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. Google AI Quantum is building novel systems that can leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world's largest computers at certain classes of problems.

As a Quantum Systems Engineer (QSE), you will help make a useful quantum computer. You will partner with everyone on the Quantum AI team to graduate new quantum systems (e.g., hardware and software technology) into production. In this role, you will build hardened infrastructure with a focus on improving performance, efficiency, reliability, usability, and deployability of our flagship systems.

You will define the overall integration flow to go from tested components to functional systems. You will provide mental models and bring engineering practices to life to build complex quantum systems that meet well defined metrics of success.

Responsibilities

  • Develop assembly, test, and integration strategies for subsystems to accelerate builds of full quantum computing systems and maximize yields.
  • Work with internal designers and contract manufacturing to establish incoming quality and performance metrics at the die level.
  • Create and execute repeatable processes for integration and testing to demonstrate subsystem performance and reliability.
  • Run and maintain test infrastructure (may include cryogenic, microwave/analog/digital electronics).
  • Analyze subsystem performance metrics to ensure system-level requirements are met.
