Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience with electrical engineering hardware design workflow (PCB design, layout, simulation)
  • Experience with electrical engineering lab testing, characterization, and debug equipment such as network analyzers and oscilloscopes
  • Proficiency using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data acquisition and analysis

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded firmware development
  • Experience in human physiology, sensing, and the design and execution of experiments involving human subjects
  • Knowledge of electrochemical effects relevant to the human-electrode interface
  • Statistics and data skills relevant to drawing reliable conclusions from experimental data

As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.

As a Research Scientist, you will provide expertise in sensing human physiological metrics using biopotentials and bioimpedances. You will improve our portfolio of electrode-based sensors, integrating novel capabilities with existing features, and enabling novel health and wellness features in future Fitbit and Google products. In this role, you will design and execute experiments to understand and verify sensor performance under real-world conditions, including testing with human subjects. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary group of the team's experts in Electrical Engineering, Firmware, and Algorithms to implement sensing systems, and partner with engineering counterparts to produce technologies.

  • Collaborate with a team of Hardware, Firmware, and Algorithm experts to design, build, and evaluate prototype sensor systems for health and wellness applications.
  • Model sensor systems to enable rapid design decisions and system-level optimization.
  • Define sensor system performance criteria and verification plans.
  • Execute studies using human subjects to demonstrate system performance.
