Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in an area of Quantum Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in the quantum computing industry.
  • Experience with code development and programming languages (e.g., Python and C++).
  • Experience with quantum noise models and in application of methods for mathematical physics.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with analytical methods in quantum field theory, topology, and holography.
  • Familiarity with the modeling and qualitative analysis of experimental data.
  • Excellent communication skills.

The goal of Google Quantum AI is to build practically useful quantum computers. The Physics group of the Pathfinding, Metrology, and Modeling team assists in building quantum computers via theoretical efforts to understand and solve physics problems related to the operation of the quantum processor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop noise models for superconducting qubit device operation and design.
  • Develop physics-based analytical and numerical models for quantum error correction codes performanace.
  • Develop software libraries for small- and large-scale open quantum system simulations.
  • Apply holographic description to understand the nonlocal error mechanisms (e.g., crosstalk, etc.) in surface codes and the models of topological quantum computation.
