Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.?
• 15 years of software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages.?
• Experience working with distributed computing, infrastructure design, and software architecture
• Ability to speak and write in English fluently.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience providing technical leadership across a larger organization
• Demonstrated experience of cross-organization collaboration and influencing other teams' directions and roadmaps
• Knowledge of Search serving infrastructure, Search logs and logging frameworks
• Familiarity with Google's Data Protection and Risk Mitigation policies for user data, experiment design, and statistical analysis
• Desire to go deep technically and solve hard engineering problems

About the job

Our engineering team builds analysis infrastructure and products that rely on data from multiple, complementary measurement domains such as human evaluation, user surveys, live traffic data and product/process metadata running on disparate infrastructure. Additionally, due to the nature of data collection needs, our systems tightly integrate with Search and Assistant serving stacks. It's critical that our systems balance the utmost respect for sensitive user data while still enabling Product Area and product leadership, teams, and analysts to make sound decisions.

As Data Science and Engineering's Principal Engineer, you will provide engineering leadership and direction that spans all data infrastructure and analysis products built by our organization. The engineering decisions you make and direction you set will generate impact at the Google scale for both Search and Assistant, delivering insights extracted from Google's wealth of data, thus enabling everybody throughout Search and Assistant to have the data and tools to make sound decisions more accurately and quickly.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall engineering direction and technical leadership for all Data Science and Engineering-built data products, infrastructure, and integrations.
• Set the long-term technical vision and architecture for the Data Science and Engineering data platform together with engineering and product leads.
• Identify unifying opportunities for analysis infrastructure across multiple data domains such as live traffic, human evaluation, and user surveys.
• Partner with engineering leaders in key partner teams such as Search logs/royal court, Search platforms and Core.
• Drive upstream changes to logging infrastructure and frameworks to ensure accurate metrics and analysis methodology.
