Research Scientist, Scene and Object Understanding role at Munich, Germany in-office 

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with publications at computer vision/machine learning conferences (NeurIPS, ECCV, ICCV, CVPR), or similar impact in the field of computer vision.
  • Experience with research in the area of scene/object recognition/reconstruction in a research lab, taking research from concept to product.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in areas such as 3D scene reconstruction, semantic localization and mapping, object detection and tracking, multimodal learning, visual search.
  • Experience in the areas of AR/VR, mixed reality and/or mobile computer vision.
  • Experience in collaborating or leading an applied research project.
  • Experience working with Python and C++.

As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.

In this role, you will focus on the development of new models and algorithms for one of our projects around object detection and tracking, 3D scene reconstruction, multi-modal learning, and visual text understanding.

  • Design innovative computer vision and machine learning technology for applications in the area of scene and object understanding.
  • Test and implement novel research ideas for Google's Product teams.
  • Drive the technology development process from the initial idea to product launch.
  • Communicate with product-facing and cross-functional teams to support the productionization aspects of the technology/algorithm.
  • Be able to publish the results of the work at scientific venues.
