Job Responsibilities

  • Identify, prioritize, and lead timely and impactful research projects related to small businesses and local economies, and triage inbound requests for analysis.
  • Conduct original analyses of large datasets of de-identified administrative data using expert coding practices and big data programming languages on a public cloud platform, and produce statistical and visual analytics.
  • Plan, execute, and partner with others to construct data assets in service of research projects.
  • Synthesize and communicate data insights and findings in a compelling manner for external decision makers, and work with internal bank colleagues to contextualize research findings within relevant business products and strategies.
  • Provide day-to-day coaching and regular feedback for direct and/or matrixed reports on their performance and career development, helping to prioritize and execute tasks.
  • Draft, coordinate input on, and publish final products. Coordinate and help deliver executive presentations and progress updates.
  • Contribute to efforts to strengthen the Institute as an organization, including developing and refining processes and promoting a collaborative culture committed to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 Required qualifications, skills, and capabilities:

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Public Policy, Data Science)
  • 6-10 years of relevant experience, including substantial experience in data analytics and/or quantitative research, grounded in microeconomics, econometrics, or other relevant fields in social science.
  • Experience writing modular / reusable code to perform statistical analyses on large administrative data sets (e.g., millions of records)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to convey complex information in an understandable, compelling, and persuasive manner to senior executives and external stakeholders and ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders
  • 2+ years of leadership and project management experience within a research setting
  • Experience leading and developing team members and creating an inclusive team environment

Preferred qualifications, skills, and capabilities:

  • PhD preferred and relevant work experience may substitute for educational qualifications.
  • Interest and background in research and policy related to small businesses and/or local and regional economies is a plus
  • Experience with Scala, Python, SQL, distributed computing platform tools (Spark), and collaboration tools (Jira)
  • Experience working in the financial services industry and/or client services is a plus
