The Capacity Delivery Planning and Analytics (CDPA) team under AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) Organization is seeking a Business Intelligence Manager with a combination of superior analytical abilities, business acumen and judgement, curiosity, technical skills, and written and verbal communication skills to join us and lead a team of business intelligence engineers.

AWS DCPD organization owns data center capacity planning and execution activities at a global scale. We consolidate data from multiple sources at a variety of horizons to ensure that we have the right strategic lens associated with each decision we make. We identify gaps in our capacity planning and delivery processes to ensure that AWS can support all customers who want to capitalize on the scalability, flexibility, and cost-efficiency of our cloud services.

Data-driven decision-making is at the core of Amazon’s culture and people who are exceptionally talented at analyzing large sets of data to build insights are critical. Your work will directly impact the decisions and strategy of the entire CDPA team and our customers. Your team will be gathering customer needs and insights, mining large and diverse data sets across AWS Infrastructure, building visualizations and tools for our business partners, generating insights to help senior leaders make critical business decisions. As a Business Intelligence Manager, you will define and manage prioritization of business intelligence requests, allocate work across the team, and be responsible for communications with our customers. You and your team will develop reporting solutions to complex business problems characterized by imperfect data. You will interact directly with business leaders and teams that rely on the metrics and analyses that your team produces.

The successful candidate will be an expert in program management, people management, data visualization, and have exemplary verbal and written communication skills. The candidate will need to be comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment, and able to think big while paying careful attention to detail. The candidate will know and love working with business partners to answer key business questions. This role requires an individual with excellent analytical abilities, deep knowledge of tools and platforms (like SQL, Tableau, AWS Redshift) for developing business intelligence solutions as well as ability to communicate clearly, and collaborate with both business owners and other analytics teams. The candidate must be able to roll up their sleeves and work directly with the data.

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable solutions for ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, dashboards, etc. to support analytical and business needs.
  • Work directly with customers to understand the business problems at hand and propose impactful analyses and solutions.
  • Partner with data engineers to develop automated solutions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our vast data sources and identify which to use to solve specific business problems.
  • Manage prioritization of business intelligence requests, allocate work across the team, and be responsible for communications with our customers.
  • Lead the creation of user-friendly repeatable reporting solutions to minimize ad hoc customer requests.
  • Hire, mentor and develop business intelligence engineers.
  • Serve as a senior SME and mentor for SQL and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau).
  • Write high quality SQL to retrieve and analyze data from relational databases (e.g., AWS Redshift).
  • Manage and improve our internal customer communication channels (e.g., wikis, data dictionaries).

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 2+ years of work experience of leading a team of business intelligence engineers, data engineers, or at a similar capacity.
  • 2+ years of experience working with large, multi-dimensional datasets from multiple sources.
  • Proficient in SQL.
  • Proficient using at least one data visualization product (Tableau, Qlik, Amazon QuickSight, Power BI, etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years of work experience of leading a team of business intelligence engineers, data engineers, or at a similar capacity.
  • Experience in managing analytics teams.
  • Experience working at a technology company.
  • Working knowledge of data mining and modeling using statistical software like R, Python, Matlab, etc.
  • Experience with ETL development and data warehousing.
  • Experience with creating and building predictive/optimization tools that benefit the business and improve customer experience.
