Job summary
Amazon Web Services Region Services are looking for a Data Engineering Manager to lead the management of our next-generation Region Services data lake. Our team generates insights from large quantities of internal and external data to support our mission to extend an AWS cloud to every community. You will build systems and tools that power our data management and analysis, enabling our team to prioritize the right level of support for the right communities at the right time in their cloud journey.
Data analysis is at the core Amazon’s culture, and your work will have a direct impact on decision-making and strategy for our organization. You will be gathering customer requirements, mining data, working with software development teams, creating data-driven dashboards, and helping senior leaders make key business decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical abilities, outstanding business acumen and judgment, intense curiosity, strong SQL and Python technical skills, and superior written and verbal communication skills. A day in the life
As a Data Operations Manager at AWS, you will be responsible for leading a team of data engineers supporting end-to-end data operations. The role will manage the development of services that support Region Service’s data infrastructure and data assets. You will work backwards from the Customer needs to build efficient data models that delivers critical KPIs and Metrics to influence leadership decisions. This position involves team management, design, architecture and operation of cloud systems.

Job responsibilities
The perfect candidate will have strong big data engineering and architecture skills, a proven track record of leading and scaling data teams, strong operational skills to drive efficiency and speed, strong project leadership, ability to deep dive into problems and help solve the problems keeping customer requirements in mind, and a strong vision for how data engineering can proactively create positive impact. You should have strong knowledge and understanding of how to optimize teams, process and performance. As a leader, you are thoughtful, aspirational, and adept at motivating teams through ambiguous situation to successful outcomes.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, or related field
  • 2-4+ years of industry experience in data analysis
  • Experience in SQL and manipulating large data sets in a database
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools like Tableau, QuickSight, or Looker

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in a data or business intelligence engineering role at a technology company
  • Experience with Apache Airflow or another orchestration platform to programmatically author, schedule and monitor data workflows
  • Proven ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data
  • Experience conducting large scale data analysis to support business decision making
  • Proficient understanding of data warehouse/modeling methods.

  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical team
  • Familiarity with Amazon's cloud infrastructure including EC2, S3, Lambda, Neptune, Redshift, and Glue
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
