We are looking for a leader for our Safety Science team. Our problem space is huge, diverse, and exciting, given the impact we can create on employee safety. As our programs have evolved, so has the need for advanced methods to measure the impact and uncover trends/insights that can help boost program (and Safety) performance. On the same lines—harnessing the huge volume of data to understand what drives safety is another priority. Safety Science team also partners closely with the Software Development team to develop AI components for technology products being developed for field safety.

As a Data Science leader, you would:

  • Lead a team of talented and experienced Data Scientists
  • Own a large portion of analytics architecture (e.g. Experiment design, data modelling, data visualization, reporting, predictive analysis, etc.)
  • Partner with your stakeholders and leadership (both tech and business) within Field Safety and Program teams to define the strategy and vision for the Safety Science team
  • Identify opportunities for new analysis or efficiency improvements, and allocate resources appropriately
  • Provide the larger picture, long-term perspective, and context (past, current, and future) behind business, scientific, and technology choices
  • Distill informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives
  • Manage and quantify improvement in Safety or value for the business resulting from research outcomes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI or in another related field
  • Extensive experience with hiring and leading experienced scientists as well as a successful record of developing junior members to a successful career track
  • Proven experience with cross-functional project management
  • Several years of experience leading analytical teams and a track record of developing teams to produce successful Data Science solutions that deliver significant benefit to business
  • Experience with programming languages R, MATLAB, Python or similar
  • Experience developing and managing a long-term research vision, and portfolio of research initiatives, with algorithms and models that have been successfully integrated in production systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in software development (software design and development life cycle)
  • Familiarity with Operations and/or Industrial Safety
