Job summary
The AWS Worldwide Public Sector (WWPS) Data Innovation and Machine Learning Engineering team's main goal is to help drive growth and efficiency in the business through machine learning driven tools and infrastructure. The team is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to help in developing and maintaining systems and datasets that are used for machine learning solutions. In this role you will partner with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to help manage and scale processes to create algorithm input features and datasets. As a member of this team you will collaborate across Engineering and Data teams to identify internal and external data sources to design and implement ETL strategy, automation frameworks, and scalable data pipelines. In addition to this, you will be helping in building a Machine Learning as a service model to enable other teams by providing infrastructure that they can rely on to build, train, deploy, and host their own models. This is a new team and the role will provide creativity and have a high level of autonomy, allowing the individual to pursue projects they feel will add value and make an impact.
Key job responsibilities

  • Partner with technical and non-technical colleagues to understand algorithm feature and data requirements
  • Work with Engineering teams to collect required data from internal and external systems
  • Develop and maintain ETL routines using orchestration tools such as AWS Glue
  • Collaborate with machine learning practitioners to design and build machine learning solutions
  • Deploy scalable streaming and batch data pipelines to support large scale datasets
  • Enforce common data design patterns to increase code maintainability
  • Create ML and ETL Infrastructure architecture designs and conduct reviews
  • Partner with team leads to identify, design, and implement internal process improvements
  • Drive and maintain a culture of quality, innovation, and experimentation
  • Work in an Agile environment that focuses on collaboration and teamwork

    The Data Innovation and Machine Learning Engineering team is part of the broader Reporting and Analytics Center of Excellence group in AWS WWPS. Overall, we are a group of engineers, scientists and analysts who combine to find new and innovative ways to drive growth and efficiency in the business through data.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • 4+ years of non-internship professional software development, data engineering, or machine learning experience
  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mathematics or equivalent work experience
  • Experience deploying and running services in AWS and in engineering big-data solutions using technologies like Glue, S3, and Spark
  • Experience in building large datasets and scalable services
  • Experience loading and querying cloud-hosted databases such as Redshift

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 + years of Machine Learning Experience or a Software Engineer or a Data Engineer.
  • Experience in building large-scale machine-learning infrastructure
  • Advanced knowledge of performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices
  • Ability to deal well with ambiguous and undefined problems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment.
  • Experience with web-scale data processing using Spark or similar technologies
  • Experience taking a lead role in architecting, designing, and building complex software systems.
