Job summary

Amazon is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientist with a strong machine learning background to help build industryleading language technology.

Our mission is to provide a delightful experience to Amazon’s customers by pushing the envelope in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Machine Learning (ML), Information Extraction, Question Answering, Transfer Learning, Zero/Few Shot Learning.

As part of our AI team in Amazon AWS, you will work alongside internationally recognized experts to develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the stateoftheart in human language technology. Your work will directly impact millions of our customers in the form of products and services, as well as contributing to the wider research community. You will gain hands on experience with Amazon’s heterogeneous text and structured data sources, and largescale computing resources to accelerate advances in language understanding.

We are hiring primarily in Information Extraction and Question Answering Development areas.

This role can be based in NYC, Seattle or Palo Alto.

Key job responsibilities

  • Research and development of algorithms in Natural Language Processing and Generation
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to design and implement innovative ML solutions to deploy in production new NLPdriven experiences and improve the existing stack
  • Partner with engineering teams to transfer viable solutions into products
  • Report results in a scientifically rigorous way
  • Publish and present your work at internal and external scientific venues in the fields of ML/NLP
  • Hire and mentor junior colleagues

The Science team at AWS AI builds worldclass NLP services that handle billions of requests per day. We are adamant about continuously learning stateoftheart NLP/ML technology and exploring creative ways to delight our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Progress towards or completed PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Physics with specialization in natural language processing (NLP)
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, or similar
  • Experience with machine learning/deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, MXNet, TensorFlow, or similar) and related libraries
  • Experience developing algorithms and models for NLP projects
  • Publication record at top conferences and in associated journals

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven track record of successfully applying MLbased solutions to complex problems in business, science, or engineering
  • Experience in building natural language processing and natural language understanding (e.g., commercial products or government projects)
  • Proven Machine Learning background and handson experience with neural deep learning methods
  • Proven experience developing software products in an industry environment
