Job summary
Are you passionate about improving productivity and improving the experience of software builders across Amazon? Would you like to help improve the tools and processes thousands of engineers use on a daily basis? If so, we are looking for you! We are on a quest to build the best set of developer tools in the industry by far, and we want you to join us.
We are looking for a passionate, hands-on Applied Science Manager to lead a team of scientists that focus on software development productivity. The ideal candidate is familiar with software development productivity at both the theoretical and implementation levels. You will need to have strong technical ability, scientific vision, great communication skills, and a motivation to lead a team to deliver results in a dynamic, collaborative environment. You will have the support of many senior engineers to learn from as well as to interact with on a daily basis and grow your career in a team that cares about work/life balance.
Our team collects data from thousands of software development teams across the company, such as code reviews, code commits, deployments, to trouble tickets. We use this data to build analytics insights and applied solutions for teams to scale themselves and streamline the software development process.
About the team
You would join our multi-disciplinary science team that includes scientists with backgrounds in Natural Language Processing, Economics, and Operations Research. Our team also serves as a hub to foster innovation and support scientists across the Software Builder Experience (SBX) Org. We also coordinate research engagements with academia, such as Amazon Research Awards.

We have innovative benefit offerings, and host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced within our 16 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.
Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.
Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded professional and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
