The AWS Worldwide Public Sector (WWPS) Business Insights team is charged with finding key metrics and trends to help our sales organization be more effective and efficient. Th team is seeking a data scientist to assist in finding insights that will help our sales teams better serve their customers and identify which actions can help accelerate cloud adoption using advanced statistical modeling practices. This role will provide creativity and have a high level of autonomy, allowing the individual to pursue projects and analyses they feel will add value and make an impact.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build predictive models that will help leadership understand current and future trajectory of the business, improving allocation of resources to support future growth.
  • Experience using R or Python to manipulate data, build models, and draw insights from large data sets
  • Strong database knowledge and skills, including SQL
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical modeling techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications
  • A business mind. Ability to find relationships between data and outcomes and what actions can feasibly be taken to drive improved results.

About the team

We are data people; the team consists of BI and Data Engineers along with Anaplan Developers. We do more than just report on data - we analyze and model data to find relationships, predict outcomes, and forecast the future.

We are team-oriented, willing to step outside our individual responsibilities to assist others on the team based on our individual strengths. We strive to not create an echo chamber - we listen to customer (sales leadership and sales operations org) feedback and work backwards from there to ensure our work makes a meaningful impact.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related degree.
  • 5+ years of using big data modeling tools (Python, R, etc)
  • 5+ years of experience performing advanced predictive analytics including regression analyses, statistics-based forecasting, and econometric modeling
  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a business analyst, gathering data requirements, developing queries, tables, etc using SQL
  • 3+ years experience using building automated data flows

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity
  • Experience in BI design and development, data modeling, architecture, and process mapping.
  • Understanding of dashboarding best practices (design, layout, format, etc) and experience using dashboarding tools (Tableau preferred)
  • Ability to communicate and explain advanced data concepts (models and results) in simple terms that those without a data background can understand.
