Job Description

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Private Pricing team provides our Sellers & Partners with a deal management and analysis portfolio that enables and accelerates private pricing deals with our most important customers and partners. Our business is constantly evolving and we build software that drives that evolution. We are looking for a hands-on Business Intelligence Engineer with experience developing and delivering analytics portfolio as we build the next iteration of our system. A successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions and possess excellent statistical and analytical abilities, and have the ability to work with technology, product development, and business teams. They will have passion for data and analytics, be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, an ability to work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment, and driven by a desire to innovate Amazon’s approach to this space.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work closely with Product, Tech, and Operations leaders to define and analyze experiments, including any lessons learned and recommended changes to approach.
  • Act as the BIE lead for the team and quickly learn how to solve problems through self-service approaches and establishing relationships with others BIEs across the org .
  • Define, measure and present metrics / automated reports on multiple products to senior leadership. Design new and enhance metrics, and continuously automate as needed to focus on highest leverage work.
  • Own and develop the mechanisms to prioritize a backlog of work across a variety of stakeholders. Escalate as needed to prioritize the most important work.
  • Crisply communicate complex analysis, insights and recommendations to stakeholders and senior leaders verbally and in written artifacts.
  • Establish an environment of self-service with stakeholders for simple or repeat requests through continuous development of knowledge bank, dashboards, or other mechanisms.
  • Develop other BIEs as a mentor and by contributing to establish a learning environment across the org.

This position may be based in our Seattle, WA; Dallas, TX; Arlington, VA; Boston, MA; Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Jersey City, NJ and any location in the US with AWS offices.

You will work with product leaders to analyze feature launches and engagement trends to generate key insights for future improvements. You will work with engineering teams to make sure that we have the data that helps us measure what matters most. Most importantly, you will work across teams to drive alignment of key metrics and performance indicators and set goals that help our teams achieve our long-term vision

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Finance, Statistics or a related discipline
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in data science, business analytics, business intelligence (BI), or comparable experience in big data environments.
  • 6+ years of experience in data mining and data-set preparation using SQL.
  • 6+ years of experience with Tableau Desktop or other relevant data visualization software.
  • Fluency and experience with statistical analytics and programming languages such as R, Python, Ruby, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, or an equivalent quantitative field
  • 8+ years of experience in a data engineer or BIE role with a technology company.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse technical architecture, infrastructure components, ETL, and reporting/analytic tools and environments
  • Be self-driven, details-oriented, and show ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data.
  • Experience using Cloud Storage and Computing technologies such as AWS Redshift, S3, Hadoop, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, shell scripting, Python/R, and MS excel.
  • Strong understanding of BI technologies and their application including database warehousing and dashboarding
  • Experience communicating with senior management as well as with colleagues from computer science, operations research, and business backgrounds.
