Job Description

The AWS Employee Relations organization is looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Engineer to take ownership of data management, analytics, and dashboards/reporting using QuickSight for the AWS Builder Relations Science Team (BRST) team. This team manages an agile and immersive employee listening system that collects, analyzes, and generates timely insights to AWS business and HR leaders about issues that matter most to our builders. We do this by using qualitative and quantitative methods to understand what our employees care about and bring their voice directly to senior leaders.

We use surveys, focus groups, and other methods to understand the voice of our employees and build out analytics tools and dashboards to tell the story of this data in a way that promotes action. We work closely with both technical and non-technical business and HR leaders across AWS to drive real and lasting positive change. We are an interdisciplinary team with researchers, data scientists, and analysts from various disciplines, and walk the line between scientist and practitioner.

This position provides an opportunity to serve as a BIE leader, where you will interact with scientists, HR leaders, and business leaders of all levels across AWS. An ideal fit for this role will have both technical and business acumen, strong Customer Obsession, and the ability to Invent and Simplify.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build and manage intake process to manage custom data/reporting requests from internal customers
  • Build QuickSight dashboards from the ground up to empower non-technical, internal customers to interpret their data and identify potential solutions
  • Build dashboards and pipelines to automate data pulls and reports from Salesforce
  • Manage the SQL build code and publication of existing BR Science dashboards
  • Work with research and data scientists to develop automated and self-service dashboards to share various types of data with key stakeholder groups
  • Write queries to pull, merge, clean, and transform large employee datasets from various sources
  • Conduct various descriptive and inferential/statistical analysis of data
  • Build interactive dashboards in QuickSight to empower non-technical, internal customers to interpret their data and identify potential solutions
  • Automate reporting for HR and business users of BR Science products
  • Partner with BIEs and data engineers on other teams in GTM and AWS PXT to inform their development of Redshift clusters and data pipelines to store and access employee survey data, and manage survey sample process to avoid over-surveying
  • Influence leaders to make thoughtful data decisions to provide the most consistent and usable data for all stakeholder groups across AWS

This role can be based within 100 miles of any US AWS Corporate location (i.e. Seattle, WA, Arlington, VA, Herndon, VA, New York, NY, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, Cupertino, CA, Palo Alto, CA, etc).

About the team

The mission of the AWS Builder (aka: Employee) Relations team is to help AWS become Earth’s Best Employer by proactively identifying themes, trends, and gaps in our builder experience, and delivering initiatives to address issues in the workplace.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math, Finance, Statistics or a related discipline
  • 3+ years hands-on analytics work experience with proven quantitative orientation
  • Experience building QuickSight dashboards
  • Experience working with Salesforce data
  • Expert in SQL
  • Experience writing and communicating technical information for non-technical audience
  • Adaptable, creative, and thrives in a fast-paced work environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, or an equivalent quantitative field
  • 5+ years of industry experience working as a BIE or related specialty
  • Experience with ETL and/or Data Warehouse solutions and databases
  • Experience in building successful analytics solutions from start to finish
  • Understanding of data warehousing and data modeling
  • Experience communicating results and business impact of analytical deep dives to senior leadership
  • A strong eye for designing elegant customer experiences and improving product usability

The base pay range for this position $99K - $185K yearly. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
