Job summary

Amazon AI is looking for an experienced Data Scientist with a

background in the intersection of linguistics, phonetics, or NLP and

statistics/machine learning to help build industry-leading speech and

language processing services.

As part of our AI team in Amazon Web Services, you will work alongside

applied scientists, software engineers, and language engineers to

define data requirements for training AI services, ensure data

quality, develop suitable evaluation metrics for novel AI features and

services, and analyze systems' input/output behavior. You will be responsible

for implementing and maintaining data analysis tools and pipelines, creating

insightful analyses of complex production systems, and communicating results

to scientists, product managers, and customers.

Your work will directly impact millions of our customers in the form

of products and services that make use of speech and language

technology. You will gain hands on experience with Amazon’s

heterogeneous speech, text, and structured data sources, and

large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in spoken

language processing.

Key job responsibilities

* Automating customer dataset evaluations

* Figuring out key metrics that need improvement for solving customer problems, and suggesting a path forward on those.

* Work closely with Applied Scientists to run analysis on new science solutions for customer engagement.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS degree and 5-6+ years of work experience or PhD in Computer Science, Linguistics, or Statistics with 1-2 years of experience; alternatively,
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts in linguistics, phonetics, natural language processing, statistics, basic machine learning
  • Software development experience (Python) and strong quantitative analysis skills
  • Strong sense of ownership and a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders of diverse technical backgrounds
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in building data analysis pipelines
  • Familiarity with cloud-based machine learning products
  • Familiarity with production-grade speech recognition or NLP systems
