Job Description
Employees in this role use design documentation, such as Functional Programming Specifications and high level design documents to implement the identified components. They also ensure that the implemented components are unit tested and ready to be integrated into the product. Software developers also provide fixes to defects identified by the verification team during the software development life cycle. The employee guides functional objectives or technologies.

Your Role and Responsibilities

This position is for a DevOps engineer in the hybrid cloud team of IBM’s watsonx Assistant service. Your primary responsibility will be the implementation, maintenance, and DevOps for OpenShift platform extensions via Kubernetes Operators and Controllers.
You will be part of a small agile team, but you will interact with and provide capabilities to Microservice Development teams, Site Reliability Engineers, and Support Engineers. You will participate in release cycles of watsonx Assistant, building and updating platform components in Go leveraging the Kubernetes APIs.
You must have a passion for examining how things work internally and excellent collaboration skills, since you will devise solutions to challenging problems in complex distributed systems with various different teams.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience with Go development.
- Experience with container technology, Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift
- Experience with the Kubernetes API, including Custom Resources and the Operator/Controller pattern
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, GitHub actions, or Tekton.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience managing & supporting deployments in public cloud, such as IBM Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure
- Experience with developing Kubernetes operators
- Solid knowledge of hybrid cloud infrastructure and management such as Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), VMWare, or Microsoft Azure
