Your Role and Responsibilities

You will be part of a dynamic team whose mission is to foster and educate a global quantum computing workforce, with a particular focus on IBM Quantum Network Partners. As part of the IBM Quantum Workforce and Community Team, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, global team of educators, researchers, event managers, content creators, engagement managers, and more whose ultimate intent is to bring useful quantum computing to the world. In this role, you will take the lead in advancing some of our workforce development and community initiatives in collaboration with our partners in Europe with a particular focus in Spain. This role will give you the opportunity to shape the education strategy and define outreach priorities within specific regions and with select partners. For instance, you may envision and implement Quantum Computing curricula for university programs at both the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, organize summer schools and workshops, deliver and/or organizing guest lectures, and facilitate or organize hackathons, among various other possibilities.

In this role, you must have passion not only for technology but also for connecting people and seeing individuals grow within our community. The ideal candidate must also possess communication skills appropriate for engaging scientists and developers while adeptly teaching complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. You must be a dot connector since your job will require to liaise with numerous internal and external stakeholders, comfortably tackle complex challenges which will often involve several teams, while still being able to operate independently to prioritize tasks effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Crafting strategic priorities to deliver unique and scalable quantum education programs tailored to our partners and local communities.
  • Driving IBM Quantum’s workforce development efforts for communities of researchers, professionals, and students.
  • Collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to define and achieve goals.
  • Staying informed about the latest internal and external developments.
  • Constantly improving your quantum computing knowledge to build a diverse portfolio of lectures and tutorials using Qiskit.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Residency in Spain.
  • Availability for travel.
  • Passion for fostering and empowering local communities and institutions.
  • Familiarity with the quantum computing academic and industrial landscape in Europe and in particular in Spain.
  • A Master’s degree providing the relevant background in quantum mechanics and/or quantum information theory such as physics, mathematics, computer science.
  • Effective collaboration skills.
  • Out-of-the-box thinking and decision-making.
  • Proven experience in training or educating groups of people.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • A PhD in a relevant field such as quantum computing, quantum information theory, etc.
  • Experience with Qiskit proven by a track record on GitHub, and/or participation in Qiskit/ IBM Quantum events like Qiskit Global Summer Schools, IBM Quantum Challenges, Open Science Prize, etc.
  • Teaching or educational experience.
  • Experience in community building, either through formal work or volunteer programs.
  • Education and exposure to topics related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
