Your Role and Responsibilities

Come build the future of quantum with us. IBM’s full-stack approach delivers the best of IBM’s quantum computing systems together with the most complete suite of quantum software tools and cloud services. As an experimentalist, theorist, or quantum information scientist with IBM Quantum, your job will be to advance the field of quantum computing research. Areas of research include superconducting qubits, quantum control, quantum error correction, quantum complexity theory, quantum algorithms, quantum machine learning, and quantum compilers and optimizers (among other areas).

Eligibility Requirements:

Please note candidates must be registered in a graduate program in order to be eligible for this internship. International students are eligible to apply. Students enrolled in an undergraduate program may apply to the Quantum Undergraduate Research at IBM and Princeton (QURIP) program (once applications open).

Quantum research summer interns will work at either the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center (Yorktown Heights, NY, USA) or IBM Research — Almaden (San Jose, CA, USA) for up to twelve weeks during the summer of 2023.

Summer Internship Duration:

  • 12 weeks

start dates: May 22 , and June 19 2023

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience in an academic graduate program related to quantum computing or other applicable area of study
  • Coursework or projects in quantum information, computation, algorithms, or other area of research related to quantum computing
  • Research experience in an area of study related to quantum computing

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience with the Python programming language and use of (or exposure to) the Qiskit quantum computing framework
  • Recognition as a Qiskit Advocate
  • Certification as an IBM Quantum Developer (Quantum Computation using Qiskit)
  • Familiarity with Git and/or Github

Supplemental 1 employees may be eligible for up to 8 paid holidays, minimum of 56 hours paid sick time and the IBM Employee Stock Purchase Plan. IBM offers paid family medical leave and disability benefits to eligible employees where required by applicable law.

The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year.
