At the IBM Research speech technologies team, our mission is to create the next generation of spoken interaction systems, using innovative speech and language AI technologies, including advanced multimodal AI models.

Role and Responsibilities:

If you’re a student interested in the fields of machine learning, deep learning, speech and language and you’re looking to come to a summer intern position where you will do research with academic and industrial impact, then this position is for you!

Our team develops technologies, models, algorithms, and software that make an impact on IBM products and on the world, and we publish papers and issue patents based on the work we do.

This internship involves solving real-world problems using cutting edge deep learning/machine learning methods, which aim to advance the state of the art in the domain of speech analytics and synthesis and in multimodal foundation models. These are key components of natural spoken interaction and require a multi-disciplinary perspective, spanning conversational and generative AI, tokenization and modeling for speech, language, and audio.

To achieve the internship goal, you will collaborate with fellow research team members and have access to nearly limitless compute power (GPU). Some examples of research topics for this internship include (but are not limited to) – Leveraging the power of large-scale language and multimodal models for speech synthesis and recognition and for spoken dialogue or modifying the speaking style while preserving high quality of synthesized speech.

Succeeding in these tasks is expected to make an important impact on the research community in these exciting fields and lead to strong publications in a leading Speech and ML conferences (e.g. Interspeech / ICASSP / ICLR).

Haifa Research Lab (in the Haifa University Campus)

IBM Site in Hashahar Tower , Givataim (Near Tel Aviv Arlozorov train station)

Our summer internship program offer you an opportunity to join our research team for 3 months internship (working 5 days a week) in either Haifa or Tel Aviv sites (according to each internship). During the internship, you will be working with our talented researcher on top projects, helping create the next generation of AI, security, quantum, cloud and much more.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

We are looking for an outstanding MSc or PhD student of CS/EE/IE with strong research and self-learning skills, significant background in deep learning and practical experience in Python and Pytorch.
