The Global Commercial Strategy Organization is recruiting for a Director, Global Real World Evidence (RWE) Data Science Analytics in Global Commercial Data Science (GCDS). The position is based in Raritan, NJ and will require up to 25% travel.

The Director Global RWE Data Science Analytics will lead the execution of industry leading RWE solutions across the GCDS Organization. This individual will report to the VP Global RWE and work with other leaders in GCDS to drive the GCSO transformation to optimize our global go-to-market launch planning strategies through innovative analytics.

Major responsibilities include accelerating analytics for RWE solutions from medical gaps within the Worldwide Integrated Evidence Generation Plans (IEGPs). The Director Global RWE Data Science Analytics will lead a team and be accountable for high-quality and timely execution of RWE solutions and support the Global RWE Senior Directors and Directors for the execution of RWE research initiatives. A close working relationship with the various RWE teams in global and regional medical affairs and market access will also be essential. This individual will sit on the GCDS Global RWE LT and will interact regularly with other leaders across GCSO and the regional businesses in support of RWE initiatives. This individual will report directly to the VP, GCSO Global RWE, and partner closely with other members in the Commercial Data Science group.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide deep technical expertise for the design and delivery of studies using real-world data (RWD) to drive competitiveness of our portfolio. Ensure scientifically rigorous methods are applied for addressing medical, scientific, economic and outcomes research questions
  • Generate key RWE-based insights on our early pipeline assets to drive global commercial strategies and create a competitive advantage by making better business decisions derived through strategic and patient-centric RWE approaches
  • Manage and develop a diverse team of experts with deep RWE and data science expertise and apply growth mindset for coaching and growing the team to developing new skills or knowledge
  • Interact with and influence senior leadership across global Janssen and J&J on opportunities and investments in RWE DS analytics that will provide key differentiation for our business growth
  • Effectively navigate technology, analytical, legal and privacy complexities to achieve objectives
  • Focused in becoming a strong business partner, a well-acknowledged internal expert while staying ahead of new methodological developments in the RWE DS field. Anticipating business-relevant real-world data science trends and related opportunities and challenges
  • Interface outside of GCSO with the regional businesses, US RWV&E, global epidemiology, R&D, JJT, legal, HCC and others in the development of the RWE analytical capabilities and guidelines for evidence generation and application
  • Show leadership on project teams and set standards of excellence for the team by demonstrating professional expertise, strong work ethic, integrity and professional behavior
  • Inspirational team leader. Creative and solution-thinking mindset with a strong passion for building a pioneering team in using data science in real world data set by innovating and piloting
  • Work side by side with the Data Science, Precision Medicine, Digital Health and Data, Platforms and Partnerships teams on joint projects to ensure the optimal combination of RWD/E methodologies and analytics along with AI/ML and Digital solutions are being leveraged to deliver on high value use cases / problems
  • Developing capabilities to improve efficiencies (tracking of analytics performed), avoid duplications and share best practices
  • Closely partner across GCSO to define priorities and partner collaboratively to identify, prioritize and deliver on relevant and innovative medical and commercial use cases

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education : Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as pharmaco-epidemiology, statistics, computational science, outcomes research or related field in health care area is required. PhD preferred

Required Years of Relevant Experience : At least 6 years of relevant industry or professional experience is required

Required Qualifications :

  • Expert knowledge in RWE, pharmaco-epidemiology, health outcomes research, statistical, and/or other quantitative methods
  • Experience in statistical programming SAS, R, Python or database programming (SQL) is a must
  • Demonstrated experience working with routinely collected data (claim databases, electronic medical (health) records, registries), and various structured and possibly unstructured data sources in the healthcare sector within pharmaceutical companies’ settings in commercial market access, medical affairs, scientific affairs and/or R&D environment
  • Experienced leader in managing team of statisticians and/or data scientists. Track record of leading teams through coaching, inspiring and developing talents
  • Excellent communicator and able to clearly articulate highly technical methods and results to diverse non-technical audiences to drive decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to influence in a large and matrixed organization required
  • Demonstrated experience in development and applications of advanced analytics solutions. Extensive experience in statistical modelling, causal inference methods (propensity scoring techniques, comparative effectiveness analysis, etc) and knowledge of advanced statistical techniques (e.g., GAMs, machine learning, deep learning)”
  • Proven experience in prioritizing and managing a complicated portfolio of projects (good track record in planning the resources required for delivering RWE queries and tactics) is required. Management of analytical and statistical activities of external service providers preferred
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners including academic data scientists, and other key external stakeholders
  • Significant per-reviewed publication track record in epidemiology, clinical, statistical and/or health economic journals required

Preferred Qualifications/skills :

  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques (e.g. supervised, unsupervised, deep learning) and their real-world advantages and drawbacks is preferred
  • Experience working in multiple therapeutic areas - experience in Oncology, Hematology, Immunology, Infectious Disease, Vaccine, Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Pulmonary Hypertension, Neuroscience and/or Retinal disease area(s) highly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in story telling with data and complex data visualization techniques is highly preferred 
  • The anticipated base pay range for this position is $157K - $236K USD
