The Johnson & Johnson Global Legal Organization (GLO) is recruiting for a Senior Counsel, MedTech Digital, located in Santa Clara, California. In this role, you’ll provide legal support and strategic advice to the Johnson & Johnson MedTech Digital team as it innovates to deliver digital experiences that advance health care and improve lives. The successful candidate will have expertise in both the legal and technical aspects of health technology, digital health, and connected medical devices, as well as a solid understanding of relevant regulations and industry trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on the development of digital products, platforms and services from conception through commercialization.
  • Navigate the ambiguity inherent in emerging areas and lead innovative problem-solving to addresses new business challenges in a highly competitive market.
  • Effectively engage with business partners and customers to negotiate research and development agreements, complex technology agreements and collaborations.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues and business partners across Johnson & Johnson and serve as a member of cross-functional business teams.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts regarding risk management, health care compliance, product security, product quality, tax, finance and technology development.
  • Partner with other members of the Johnson & Johnson GLO, including specialists in intellectual property, regulatory law, data protection, litigation, and business development.
  • Coordinate with colleagues outside of the United States who are counseling the business on regional issues.

Qualifications

  • JD degree from nationally recognized university.
  • Licensed to practice law in California as a member in good standing of the California Bar or as a Registered In-House Counsel.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum 10 years of relevant legal experience, including as in-house counsel.
  • Meaningful experience in the healthcare industry is required.
  • Experience advising on legal issues related to health technology, software as a medical device, data science and analytics, artificial intelligence, website development and terms of use, mobile devices, open-source software, software development, software licensing, software-as-a-service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), data rights, privacy, and cybersecurity.
  • Strong research, writing, counselling and interpersonal skills, and a client-service orientation.
  • A track record of leadership, commitment to ethical decision making and building trusting relationships with colleagues.
  • Accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to take ownership of an issue and provide concise and timely advice.
  • Capable of dealing with the ambiguity inherent in emerging areas and able to lead innovative problem solving to addresses new business challenges in a highly competitive market.
  • A positive attitude and the skills to work across business functions and cultures with teams located in multiple time zones.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% within the U.S.

In accordance with applicable disclosure requirements, the anticipated base pay range for this position is $184,000 -$317,400. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
