The R&D Data Science RWE Advanced Analytics team within J&J develops innovative solutions using various data sources across multiple disease areas in support of J&J’s key clinical programs. We are looking for an outstanding post-doctoral scientist whose responsibilities will include the development of groundbreaking methodologies to develop RWD-based solutions to enable disease insights, improve patient outcomes, and enhance clinical development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop methodological models to integrate probabilistic machine learning and simulation techniques to predict the outcome of clinical trials (in-silico or virtual trials).
  • Lead and assist in answering critical questions in clinical development using pioneering modeling & simulation methodologies, critical decision-making like study design, dose selection, adaptive designs, etc. based on real-world data (RWD) and clinical trials.
  • Development of artificial intelligence/machine learning models in healthcare (e.g., disease identification, patient stratification, disease progression, forecasting) based on RWD that will provide key insights into our pipeline assets
  • Leverage emerging scientific and technological developments to generate new research ideas, solutions, and initiatives using real-world data (electronic health records, insurance claims, registry data, others)
  • Clearly articulate highly technical methods and results to diverse audiences and partners to drive decision-making

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A recent or almost completed Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, artificial intelligence, computer science, operations research, statistics, industrial & systems engineering, applied mathematics, health economics, biomedical informatics, or similar)
  • Experience with one of the following: statistical modeling, simulation, machine learning, deep learning, causal inference methods, multivariate regression and classification, forecasting, and natural language processing
  • Hands-on technical data analysis and machine learning modeling experience (across roles)
  • Experience in EHR, insurance claims, clinical trial outcomes, or registry data
  • Experience working closely with healthcare subject matter experts.
  • Track record of consistently delivering on high-impact data science projects
  • Proficiency in Python or R, and SQL
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship at the time of hire or in the future

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in causal state-transition, probabilistic machine learning, or simulation
  • Familiarity with and exposure to drug discovery and clinical development processes with one or more of the following therapeutic areas: oncology, immunology, cardiovascular, neuroscience, pulmonary hypertension, or infectious disease

The anticipated base salary for this position is $95,000 but will be based on candidates program year, discipline, degree and/or experience.
