Janssen Research & Development LLC (JRD), a Johnson & Johnson company, is recruiting for a Director of Oncology Data Sciences, R&D. You will report to the Head of Hematology & Oncology Data Science.

The primary location for this position is either New Brunswick, NJ or Spring House, PA. Consideration will be given to Boston, MA, Raritan, NJ and Titusville, NJ, South San Francisco CA, La Jolla, CA or other JRD locations including Remote.

Position summary:

  • Serve a bifunctional role as a Data Science translator and a Clinical Leader/ Data Science liaison to the Oncology Therapeutic Area
  • Drive key strategic priorities for Oncology Data Science, such as leading a team for development of approaches to increase acceptability of RWE for regulatory decision-making
  • Provide strategic and scientific input regarding Real World Evidence (RWE), Computer Vision, Advanced Analytics, Data Science, and epidemiologic projects to clinical stage oncology programs.
  • The person in the role will be responsible for building and delivering the Data Science strategy for key Oncology clinical programs. They will serve as the Data Science line function leader to these programs, providing strategic, clinical, and scientific leadership for clinical trials.
  • Specifically, this role will identify viable data science opportunities and then conceive, develop and implement end to end study design and data analytical solutions. A specific example may include working with the Darzalex Compound Development Team to develop a RWE/Data Science strategy to improve early and late phase clinical study designs by supporting novel patient identification/selection and selection of end points (e.g., identification of at risk patient populations through development of novel predictive algorithms)
  • To successfully meet these objectives, this individual will work closely with individual clinical project teams as well as functional area partners in Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Clinical Development, Epidemiology, Data Science, Quantitative Sciences, and others.
  • This role will provide strategic leadership on managing/addressing specific project/program-related issues and presenting to and negotiating with Oncology and Janssen leadership teams on development plans or program-related issues.
  • Builds credible relationships with opinion leaders and may act as company spokesperson regarding publication of research findings and presentations to relevant health authorities and consultant/advisory meetings.

Qualifications

  • MD, Ph.D., Masters or Bachelors degree in Medicine, Biotechnology, Statistics, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Biology or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years industry experience in drug development or related discipline in the field of biotechnology.
  • Strong working knowledge of drug development, with established expertise with multiple components of drug development, such as translational research, clinical studies, or regulatory interactions.
  • Familiarity with healthcare relevant datasets, such as EHR, insurance claims or registry data.
  • Capacity to lead timelines and drive key deliverables in a matrix environment.
  • Established leadership skills, including management of individuals and teams working towards common clinical/scientific goals
  • Prior experience working and driving external partnerships, either corporate or academic
  • Experience with establishing clinical trial enrollment criteria, developing and interpreting clinical endpoints
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical work to a wide audience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with drug discovery and clinical development processes.
  • Experience with Oncology research, clinical practice or drug development
  • A non-technical understand of common data science research practices, such as predictive technologies, data mining and/or text mining.

Expected Base Salary Range: $152,000 - $263,350
