The Special Projects Group at Apple is seeking an accomplished robotics engineer or systems engineer to serve as a Autonomy Systems Engineer focused on Verification and Validation. With a mix of systems engineering, data science, and algorithm development, you will conduct technical analyses of system requirements and use cases to develop insightful metrics and tests that verify the performance and safety of our system. Your work deliverables will be a key part of the development cycle, delivering objective criteria against which we can measure the readiness of our system. We expect successful candidates to demonstrate an ability to solve complex problems efficiently, and to communicate about them effectively with a variety of audiences.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience with analysis, verification, or validation of complex robotics systems, preferably in autonomous applications.
  • Experience using rigorous scientific methods for trade studies, testing, and problem solving. Familiarity with formal verification is a plus.
  • Experience with statistics, data analysis, or modeling.
  • Excellent Python skills. Experience with C++ and/or SQL experience is a plus.
  • Experience in system or algorithm design, tackling deep unsolved problems, and a history of detailed execution.

Description

As an Autonomy Systems Engineer, you will design methods for efficiently and robustly verifying autonomy and ensure that it meets our high standards of safety and performance.

  • You will work with stakeholders to identify key use-cases for an autonomous system based on system
  • You will develop quantitative models for use-cases, define test plans informed by these models, and derive relevant metrics and must-pass criteria for the tests.
  • You will contribute automated evaluations for tests that leverage simulation and real-world testing frameworks, and deploy them at scale.
  • You will analyze test results to identify performance and functional gaps in the system. You will work with key stakeholders to develop mitigations for these gaps.

Education & Experience

MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics or a related field are likely matches

Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900 and $256,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
