Job Description

The on-device Machine Learning Performance team in the Machine Learning Platforms and Infrastructure group is looking for an ML Manager to lead a team of engineers engaging in various aspects of hardware and software co-design. Team responsibilities include analyzing ML performance on unreleased SOCs (System On a Chip), signing off on new products’ ML performance, and investigating performance and power characteristics of new ML workloads. In addition, the team researches and develops toolchain to identify performance bottlenecks as well as experimenting with various techniques for model and runtime level techniques to meet theoretical targets. Additionally, the team owns cost modeling efforts with an intent to deliver the best performance across all compute backends. The team is highly cross functional and its leader will need to leverage its technical strengths to influence hardware and software engineering partners to help drive and shape Apple’s product roadmap. Experience with system level performance in embedded platforms as well as SOC architecture is a strong plus. If this role sounds exciting, we want to hear from you!

Key Qualifications

  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
  • Understanding of machine learning fundamentals
  • Experience with performance on low level software and computer architecture.

You will be tasked to analyze and signoff on ML performance and power on unreleased SOCs, product level analysis and signoff, and profiling of new ML workloads such as generative models. You will be responsible for collecting the takeaways from SOC investigations and then collaborating with the Platform Architecture team to provide insight for future silicon. You’ll work with high level software features including 3rd party developers, as well as teams up and down the ML inference stack all the way down to firmware. You’ll develop innovative methodology for measuring and introspecting into ML workloads and extend our tools and infra to provide deeper insight into system behaviors. You’ll also work with model developers to optimize their models and optimize their usage of our SOCs to deliver outstanding latency and memory usage. You'll manage a team a team building cost models used for model segmentation.

Education & Experience

B.S or M.S. Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

Pay & Benefits

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $183,400 and $316,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
