Job Description

Human Interface Devices (HID) operates at the intersection of hardware, software, and design. The group delivers algorithms, software and firmware to power sensors that connect customers to their devices. This includes a multitude of Health and Fitness features on the Watch as well as Biometrics, Multitouch, Force, Haptics and others across Apple devices, many of which are powered by Machine Learning. Our team is responsible for setting the standards of qualification of Machine Learning models across HID’s portfolio. We love to spend time innovating and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible to achieve with ML models in real life sensing applications. We aspire to increase the level of explain-ability of ML models over time and help many teams across Apple and the broader industry to build models they can trust and rely on! Our past projects include TouchID, Heart Rate and Irregular Heart Rhythm Notifications for Watch. To us, success is not the highest performance number in a theoretical sandbox. It is rather a perfectly integrated model that performs at a very high level of quality for the entire spectrum of customers and uses, in a predictable way, without surprises or unintended circumstances. In this role you will collaborate with Algorithms, Software, Firmware, Data and Quality Assurance Engineers to deliver state-of-the-art next generation technologies into Apple products! • Analyzing feasibility, risks and weaknesses of new models, algorithms and features -Visualizing algorithm performance in a concise, illustrative, candid and comprehensive way
  • Building instrumentation (algorithms, frameworks, pipelines and tools) to power analyses at scale -Discovering biases in model behavior and detecting its root cause
  • Ensuring fairness for models with large impact running on 1.8 billion active Apple devices
