Our team is seeking a research scientist who is an expert in attention and cognition and are particularly interested in candidates with experience understanding visual attention and behavior in complex spatial environments (e.g., focused work, collaboration, creating). The ideal candidate will have a solid research background and has made innovative contributions to science with a variety of quantitative and experimental approaches. The candidate has a passion to create transformative computing experiences that are inspired by cognitive and systems neuroscience. We are looking for a teammate with excellent interpersonal skills, and who has a dedication to conducting impactful research in a fast-paced environment.

Key Qualifications

  • 3-5 years industry and/or postdoctoral experience carrying out experiments investigating the neural and behavioral correlates of attention and cognition
  • Extensive expertise in experimental design, with a strong theoretical foundation in visual neuroscience, including some or all of: selective visual attention, visuomotor integration and control, decision making
  • 3+ years experience developing and evaluating efficacy of technological factors that influence attention, with demonstrated application to improving human computer interfaces
  • 5+ years applying statistical and signal processing methods to multimodal time series, fluent in applying convergent methods across self-report, behavioral (e.g., eye tracking), and physiological data
  • Background preferred in machine learning and neural computation
  • Fluent in numerical computing, prototyping and ML tools (e.g., Python, Matlab, ML toolboxes)
  • Ability to embrace uncertainty when working on challenging research questions.
  • Excellent problem solving, creative thinking, and interpersonal skills.

Description

This is a multi-faceted scientific role that will require you to be flexible across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative group. You will work closely with scientists and engineers to rapidly design and carry out experiments to uncover insights that drive research and development. The responsibilities of the role include: Design and execute user studies to investigate attention and cognition in complex, naturalistic environments Perform extensive data analysis to pull out actionable insights from complex multimodal datasets Work cross-functionally with other teams to translate insights into transformative technology prototypes and demonstrations Conduct literature reviews and survey technology trends in attention and share insights cross-functionally Present your findings to cross-functional partners and stakeholders

Education & Experience

Doctorate in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering or related expertise.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900 and $256,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
