The Text Understanding Platform team provides some of the core system-level capabilities for semantic analysis of text used to benefit a range of features across Apple platforms. We’re looking for an ambitious applied scientist, who can combine knowledge in state-of-the-art NLP techniques with a practical knowledge of how to deliver real-world systems. We want someone who is passionate about applying NLP in ways consistent with Apple’s core values of fairness, privacy, and attention to detail, who is comfortable working collaboratively and navigating ambiguity, and who is driven to improve the user experience. Key Qualifications

• Expertise in applying the state of the art in NLP algorithms to practical problems.
• Strong object-oriented programming and design skills, ideally in an on-device context.
• Practical knowledge of Swift or Objective-C (useful but not required)
• Practical knowledge of standard methodologies for privacy-preserving ML (useful but not required).
• Publications in leading machine learning or NLP venues (optional but not required)

Description

• Participate in the design of algorithms that allow us to bring the state of the art in NLP algorithms on device.
• Develop the next generation of event and structured entity recognition systems.
• Prototype and demonstrate the effectiveness of your designs
• Work with engineers to put your algorithms into production.
• Work with internal client teams to identify critical needs and adapt your design to serve them.

Education & Experience

• First-rate knowledge of both NLP and computer science fundamentals is essential — no matter how you acquired it! At least 5 years of experience.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $161,000 and $278,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
