As AI-based solutions expand to solve new and complex problems, the need to engage across disciplines grows. The Apple AIML Residency is a one-year program for graduates with advanced degrees that is designed to spur interdisciplinary collaboration. The Residency supports experts in various STEM fields as well emerging ML researchers and engineers as they work collaboratively to create revolutionary machine learning and AI-powered products and experiences.

Residents gain hands-on experience as members of an AIML team for one year, working on high-impact projects that will impact future Apple products and features. Residents also have the opportunity to learn from an Apple mentor, collaborate with fellow Residents, publish at premier research venues, attend Apple-led and external technical and leadership courses, pursue independent study, and partner with R&D teams across Apple.

• Key Qualifications
• Excellent Python skills.
• Excellent problem solving, and critical thinking.
• Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with others.
• Familiarity with recent Federated Learning research.
• Familiarity with recent Foundation Models, especially Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning.
• Understanding Differential Privacy a plus.

Description

You will be working in the PriML team, at Apple. We are the team responsible for developing technologies that enable ML with strong privacy guarantee, such as Private Federated Learning. Your valuable work will impact the lives of millions of Apple users worldwide.

You will help Apple push towards a privacy preserving future by researching, designing and implementing Machine Learning algorithms and models that fit the Federated Learning paradigm with Differential Privacy. You will help teams with modeling for their use case using our framework and in turn enhance the experience of hundreds of millions of users, all while preserving their privacy. You will review papers, designs and code by others and provide constructive feedback. You will share your expertise and mentor others, while continuously learning from colleagues.

Education & Experience

Graduate degree in a STEM field or equivalent industry experience in software engineering.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $132,300 and $199,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
