Overview

We are hiring a Principal Software Engineering Manager for the AI subject matter expert team, with deep experience and expertise in designing and delivering AI solutions using modern software engineering practices and cloud technologies. You will be working side-by-side with high-impact and strategic customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions. As part of our team, you will thrive in working with a variety of technologies, not just Microsoft technology.  We understand that most technologies are evolving very quickly, so broad experience in the AI space and the ability to quickly upskill and unblock others is the key to success. By interacting with our customers’ engineering teams and Microsoft’s product engineering teams, you will develop real-world technical experience that helps customers grow their business and Microsoft to improve our products and services. You will enable the engineers on your team to apply their skills, creativity, and aspirations to benefit our customers and advance their careers.

Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) is part of Microsoft Industry Solutions, a global organization of over 16,000 strategic sellers, industry experts, elite engineers, and world-class architects, consultants, and delivery experts who work together to bring Microsoft’s mission of empowerment – and cutting-edge technology - to life for the world’s most influential customers.   

The ISE team works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges. We develop solutions side-by-side with our customers through collaborative innovation to solve their challenges. This work involves the development of broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform. In this role, you will be working with engineers from your team and our customers’ teams to apply your skills, perspectives, and creativity to grow as engineers and help solve our customer challenges.

Qualifications

​Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

Preferred Qualifications:

• People management experience
• Advanced communication skills, including experience in organizing and presenting novel ideas to C-level executives and boards, government officials, press, and equivalent
• High tolerance for ambiguity and context switching
• Experience building machine learning-powered features
• Expertise in modern AI technologies and trends, including deep learning, RL, foundation models for vision, audio, and language, GPT architectures, autonomous systems
• Experience with releasing open source software
• Experience with practical issues around AI deployments, including hardware (client and server), software (AI frameworks, MLOps and FMOps), data (data protection, privacy, sovereignty); and legal/regulatory (IP, explainability, bias, and safety)
• Demonstrated ability to work with customers and collaborate across company boundaries
• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud computing platforms
• Experience leading geographically dispersed, diverse, and virtual teams

Understand User Requirements 

• Collaborate with a number of stakeholders to get a deeper understanding of customer requirements, that will guide your designs and solutions.
• Identify deep insights from customer engagements and partner with the product group on using customer needs and insights to guide future product roadmap.
