Team and Role:

The goal of the Microsoft Cloud Data Sciences team is to foster a data-driven culture; to encourage and enable the entire organization to make more informed decisions through data. In support of this mission, our Analytics & Inference team works closely with engineering, marketing, finance, sales, and business leaders to identify opportunities for improving the customer experience and accelerating the growth of cloud platforms and services. Our charter spans the breadth of Cloud + AI (Azure, Dynamics, PowerPlatform) where we surface key insights, identify salient trends, perform analyses of historical data, define benchmarks and models for predicting upcoming performance, and design and deliver standardized views of business performance. We are looking for an experienced Data & Applied Scientist to leverage data to unlock new value for Microsoft customers by understanding product consumption patterns across Microsoft Azure and the Microsoft Cloud. The role is primarily focused on enabling the Microsoft sales organization to help Microsoft managed customers realize the value of the cloud through providing data science insights such as customer prioritization, recommendations, and other insights derived from data. You will be joining a group of experts on the front lines of synthesizing vast data sets of customer purchase and engagement behavior into targeted recommendations for addressing real world cloud computing business challenges at scale.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Become a subject matter expert in the Cloud + AI business and underlying data ecosystem. Collaborate with product and program owners across the organization to understand objectives, identify opportunities, and inform data-driven decisions.
  • Partner with business stakeholder in the sales organization to develop analytical insights, propensity models, and success criteria that will help drive better understanding of enterprise customer’s cloud journey, cloud maturity and customer success enablers.
  • Identify changes in customer behavior, system performance, or financial results, and deliver the necessary insights to explain them and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reporting and analysis in support of business reviews. Lead the development and management of metrics, KPIs, and dashboards. Recognize opportunities for process improvements to increase quality, accelerate delivery, and reduce cost.
  • Ensure documentation of analysis methodologies/results and educate users on leveraging data.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading data analyses from start to finish and landing actionable insights
  • 4+ years of experience in data science, analytics, business intelligence, or data driven business strategy. Including hands-on experience in T-SQL or other query languages and data analysis tools (R, Python, Azure Data explorer/Kusto, PowerBI etc.).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-10 years of experience in data science, analytics, business intelligence, software development, or consulting.
  • Strong analytical ability; problem deconstruction, statistical thinking, meticulous analysis, data validation, and scientific rigor.
  • Previous product analytics experience where telemetry data was used to understand how customers interacted with a product or service, which features were most used, and what experiences led to customer friction or trouble.
  • Functional knowledge of cloud computing and online services business models, including business, technical, financial, and operational measurements.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management, including clear and concise communication, effective prioritization, storytelling/presentation and delivery of actionable insights. 
  • Experience applying learnings from data analysis towards optimizing the customer lifecycle
