Do you want to be part of a team working at projects with potential to cause radical changes in existing industries? The Living Interfaces group is part of the Special Projects team and is working on disruptive ideas to transform diverse areas. To name a few, our members developed Project Natick (https://natick.research.microsoft.com/) where we built and deployed a full-scale underwater datacenter that showed reduced energy use and improved performance; also, we are working on a system using multiple depth cameras to provide real-time 3D Telemedicine at remote and underserved areas using Microsoft's Holoportation™ technology (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/project/holoportation-3/). Our new research challenges lie at the intersection of Large Language Models (LLMS) and Computer Vision (CV.)

You will help solve complex challenges in diverse fields and have access to a network of world-class research labs led by globally recognized scientists and engineers. As an Research Intern, you will help with our current projects involving LLMs and CV, while having equal opportunities and access to tools, resources, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD program, or a research master’s degree program with the intention of completing a PhD, in Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related STEM field.

Other Requirements

  • Research Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.
  • In addition to the qualifications above, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. After you submit your application, a request for letters may be sent to your list of references on your behalf. Note that reference letters cannot be requested until after you have submitted your application, and furthermore, that they might not be automatically requested for all candidates. You may wish to alert your letter writers in advance, so they will be ready to submit your letter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing.
  • Experience working on Computer Vision.
  • Experience with development in Python and C/C++.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and Data Science packages such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Numpy, Scipy, and Sklearn.
  • Experience with Large Language Models, multi-modal AI, 3D modeling/volumetric capture.
  • Excellent Research and collaboration skills.

The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,290 - $12,170 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,060 - $13,240 per month.
