We are seeking an experienced Data Science Manager (M2) to to build and expand our cross-service, signal-based protections using state-of-the art techniques spanning the areas of supervised and unsupervised machine learning. Our organization focuses on protecting customers against social engineering attacks such as phishing across our browsers, email, and chat – within this charter, machine learning (ML) is a fundamental part of how we protect customers.


As a manager of mangers and technical leaders, you will define and execute on the overall data science driven protection strategy across Microsoft Defender for Office, outlook.com, and Microsoft Teams. You will partner with your peers on the product and engineering side to execute on that strategy. This entails protecting customers from threats they face today while at the same time investing in approaches to protect customers tomorrow. In addition, you will mentor data science managers and technical leads within the team, as well as establish thought-leadership across Microsoft and customer base by carrying research into the public domain.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a data driven strategy to protect customers from social engineering threats using a broad range of data science and machine learning approaches in collaboration with product and engineering leaders
  • Be accountable for the data science protection stack of Microsoft Defender for Office, outlook.com, and Microsoft Teams. Continuously drive a closed loop on data driven insights, customer experience towards upstream investments
  • Manage and grow data science managers on the team
  • Drive AI innovation within the team and establish thought leadership via publications/patents and presence in industry/academic conferences
  • Provide technical leadership by reviewing problem sets, proposing prediction models, and reviewing experiments and models
  • Act as a resident expert for applied machine learning, statistics, and scaling ML solutions

Qualifications

Required:

  • 8+ years of professional experience successfully deploying ML solutions at scale for real-world problems
  • 1+ years people management experience
  • Masters degree with relevant coursework toward Data Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning or equivalent work experience

Preferred:

  • Experience with deep learning applied to areas such as NLP and computer vision
  • Experience with deploying ML models on cloud technologies such as Azure
  • PhD in a quantitative field (engineering, computer science, statistics etc.) with relevant coursework in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics & Deep Learning or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to program in an object-oriented language (such as C# or C++)
