The Connected Services and Experiences Data Science team inside the Windows and Devices group uses Data Science techniques such as statistical analysis and modeling, machine learning and AI to improve the quality of experiences on our devices and services. Our work spans PCs, mobile devices, cloud services, apps, and web experiences. We combine our data science work with business and engineering knowledge to provide unique insights into customer scenarios and innovative functionality into products. Examples of our work include end-to-end systems that help improve the quality of services, inferencing models on client devices, flighting and experimentation systems, and practices that help other teams raise the level for quality and trustworthiness behind their data.

Responsibilities

We are looking for highly motivated and passionate data scientists to apply scientific methodology to data to improve our products. Top candidates have a demonstrable record of using data to improve the world around them by collaborating across many stakeholders and disciplines. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will formulate approaches to solve engineering and business problems through the application of statistical and machine learning methodologies. You will use data exploration techniques to discover new opportunities within your problem area.?You will interpret the results of analyses, validate approaches, and learn to monitor, analyze, and iterate to continuously improve. You will engage with stakeholders to produce clear, compelling, and actionable insights and data-science driven workflows that influence product and service improvements that will impact millions of customers. You will also engage in the peer review process and act on feedback while learning innovative methods, algorithms, and tools to increase the impact and applicability of your results.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Solid understanding of parametric as well as non-parametric statistical methods, including statistical and exploratory data analysis
  • 5-7 years of experience with machine learning, deep learning, anomaly detection, predictive analysis, text analysis, or other areas of data science 
  • Experience applying advanced optimization techniques based on historical data and simulations to improve service efficiency and quality (e.g., increasing reliability, reducing time-to-resolve, increasing actionability) 
  • Experience taking deep learning and statistical models to production scale and reliability 
  • Experience performing data analyses including writing query code to extract data, and applying statistics to evaluate and prepare that data for analysis

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency using one or more programming or scripting languages like Python, Scala, Julia, or C# to work with data
  • Experience with product and service telemetry systems, or other sources of large-scale data
  • Expertise with fundamentals underlying machine learning and/or reinforcement learning methodologies
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaborative skills
  • Ability to drive product and business impact in ambiguous situations with data science methodologies
  • Engineering experience to efficiently manage large data sources from SQL, Hadoop, Spark, etc.; as well as ML pipeline services on Azure ML.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quant-focused field
