Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system. Our full-stack approach involves exciting innovation from the physics at the quantum plane to providing global quantum services. The Microsoft Quantum program strives to fundamentally change the world of computing to help solve humankind’s currently unsolvable problems. We are on the cusp of an accelerated effort in quantum computing. This Applied Researcher position offers an opportunity to have a meaningful influence on a revolutionary technology. The research and development effort includes a diverse staff of theoretical and experimental physicists, hardware designers and software engineers around the world.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
  • OR Master's Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR Doctorate in in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Python, Julia, C/C++, or similar languages.

Other Requirement:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in fault-tolerant quantum computing, quantum error correction, and/or benchmarking of quantum systems.
  • Experience with collaborative software development.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail oriented design, coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.

Responsibilities

You will help us design, develop, and maintain a modeling software toolset used by our quantum error correction and fault-tolerance team. You will focus on creating flexible modeling / analysis tools and will collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders to incorporate new algorithms and techniques into these tools. You will thrive in this role if you love coding, qubits (logical and physical), creative problem solving, and if you are excited about building a scalable quantum computer.
