Data Scientists have a fantastic opportunity to join the AI for Good Lab led by Microsoft's Chief Data Scientist. You will work at the cutting edge of data science with some of the brightest minds in the field while knowing you are generating solutions to some of the most demanding and defining challenges of our time. In this role, you will collaborate with Microsoft's societal programs, public policy, and product teams to understand their goals and deliver impactful data analysis and visualizations to communicate insights to executives and partners worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Develop data science solutions by identifying and gathering data, conducting data transformation and manipulation, modeling and analysis, and insight generation
  • Distill large, ambitious, and ambiguous initiatives into concrete, actionable data science solutions
  • Present analysis with a clear and concise narrative with impactful visualizations that articulate compelling and actionable insights
  • Collaborate with data engineers, researchers, and project partners to leverage their expertise into your data science solutions
  • Represent insights and capabilities to internal and external leadership audiences, both technical and non-technical
  • Advance the AI For Good Lab agenda

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in extracting, transforming, and analyzing data using SQL or SQL-like scripting languages
  • 3+ years of experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches, machine learning, and/or AI techniques
  • 3+ years of experience with statistical data analysis such as regression, probability, and classification techniques
  • 3+ years of experience in programming using Python, R, and/or equivalent programming languages
  • 3+ years of experience in communicating analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and developing visualization solutions using common industry tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.)
