Virtual Internship

Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.

At Microsoft Research, we aim to do fundamental research, write papers in top-tier conference, and also take these innovations to the real world. One such example is Project FarmBeats:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/project/farmbeats-iot-agriculture/.

As part of our research, we currently have an opening for a research intern on using wireless technologies to help shape and define the next version of XBox. We are looking for an experienced and motivated student to conduct research on a topic that requires:

  • Knowledge of Layer 1 and Layer 2 in WiFi – standards such as 802.11ac, 802.11ax
  • Experience with latest multi-armed bandit and reinforcement learning techniques
  • Experience with python C, C++ and working with embedded systems
  • Experience with programming on embedded systems

The project is likely to lead to publications at top-tier venues in networking and systems.

We are located on Microsoft's campus in Redmond, near Seattle, Washington. Responsibilities

At Microsoft Research, interns pursue research alongside fellow doctoral candidates and fulltime researchers. They learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students work closely with mentors and sometimes collaborate with other interns and researchers as well.

Qualifications

In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. After you submit your application, a request for letters may be sent to your list of references on your behalf. Note that reference letters cannot be requested until after you have submitted your application, and furthermore, that they might not be automatically requested for all candidates. You may wish to alert your letter writers in advance, so they will be ready to submit your letter.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong publication record in top-tier conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop original research ideas.
  • Strong programing skill (C++/Python/Matlab).
  • Experienced in reinforcement learning and multi armed bandit techniques.
  • Knowledge of WiFi layer 1 and 2 – standards such as 802.11n/ac/ax etc.
