Virtual Internship

Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.

As an AI for Cloud intern, you will formulate new approaches to solve problems unique to the cloud infrastructure. You will incorporate an understanding of product requirements and customer perspective to provide context for those solutions. You will use mathematical techniques to discover new questions or opportunities within your problem area and propose applicability and limitations of the solution. A successful intern will be capable of coming up with new ideas to address the challenging setting of doing AI within a cloud infrastructure, practically demonstrate the applicability of these new ideas and write rigorous proofs for their analysis.

Responsibilities

Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.

Additional Responsibilities

You will engage with peer stakeholders to produce clear, compelling, actionable insights that influence product and service improvements that will impact millions of customers. As a Data Scientist, you will also engage in the peer review process and act on feedback while learning innovative methods, algorithms, and tools to increase the impact and applicability of your results.

Qualifications

In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. After you submit your application, a request for letters may be sent to your list of references on your behalf. Note that reference letters cannot be requested until after you have submitted your application, and furthermore, that they might not be automatically requested for all candidates. You may wish to alert your letter writers in advance, so they will be ready to submit your letter.

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD, past 2nd year, in Computer Science, Machine Learning or related technical discipline.
• 2 years of coding experience with Machine Learning algorithms (preferably Python).

Preferred Qualifications

• A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
• Research experience in Algorithms, Architecture, Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Distributed Systems, Machine Learning, Networking, or Systems.
• Strong mathematical background in Manifold theory, Probability theory, Lie Group theory, Representation theory and Integral Geometry.
• An ability to pick up new mathematical ideas quickly.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with data scientists, software engineers and program managers in multiple organizations.
• Familiarity or ability to quickly ramp up with machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and/or data science.
• Strong intellectual curiosity and passion about learning new technologies.
