As part of our research, we currently have an opening for a research intern on using wireless technologies to help shape and define the next version of XBox. We are looking for an experienced and motivated student to conduct research on a topic that requires

• Knowledge of congestion control techniques and transport layer protocols – various flavors of TCP, UDP, WebRTC etc.
• Knowledge and experience with Reinforcement Learning techniques
• Experience and ability with modifying and testing various transport protocols
• Understanding and experience of real time streaming for video
• Experience with simulators such as NS3

The project is likely to lead to publications at top-tier venues in networking and systems.

We are located on Microsoft's campus in Redmond, near Seattle, Washington. Responsibilities

At Microsoft Research, interns pursue research alongside fellow doctoral candidates and fulltime researchers. They learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students work closely with mentors and sometimes collaborate with other interns and researchers as well.

Qualifications

In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. Required Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong publication record in top-tier conferences.
• Demonstrated ability to develop original research ideas.
• Strong programing skill (C++/Python)
• Knowledge of congestion control techniques and transport layer protocols – various flavors of TCP, UDP, WebRTC etc.
• Knowledge and experience with Reinforcement Learning techniques
• Experience and ability with modifying and testing various transport protocols
• Understanding and experience of real time streaming for video 
• Experience with Simulator such as NS2
