The Insights, Data Engineering & Analytics team (IDEAs), is a central data science team for M365 engineering and marketing.? We are looking for a passionate, creative, analytical, and experienced data scientist who loves big data, is curious to explore, and who wants to increase the impact machine learning and data science can have on the business.? We are also striving to reform and cement how Data Science is done within the organization.

Role

As a member of the ML Solutions and Operations team within IDEAs Data Science, you will identify opportunities to design, build, and deliver horizontal/reusable machine learning solutions that deliver impact across multiple business areas and increase capability and productivity of the data science team (i.e. forecasting, anomaly detection, auto-ml, drift detection, etc). You’ll also help define best practices for operating scalable machine learning services in production and investigate ways we can best leverage available ML technologies inside and outside the company.

Responsibilities

• Identify patterns and common needs across the business and data scientists where we can build reusable machine learning services and components that increase our consistency, scale, and impact 
• Research, evaluate, and implement best available ML optimization techniques and technologies from across Microsoft and Industry, turning them into best practices and operational standards for the team
• Work with engineers to architect and develop operational models that run at scale
• Construct Data Science best practices and guidelines to be followed by other Data Scientists
• Assist with production ML related incidents during Redmond business hours 
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Masters degree or higher in Statistics/Math/Computer Science or related field
• 6+ years of industry work experience with a variety of machine learning methods (i.e., forecasting, unsupervised, anomaly detection, clustering, imbalanced data sets,?deep learning, tree-based methods, evolutionary algorithms, etc.) in a big data environment 
• Passion and creativity for ML optimization and building reusable services
• Solid Python coding skills, comfortable with CI/CD processes, unit testing, building packages and fully functional prototypes of proposed solutions (data processing, APIs, and visualizations as needed) 
• Comfortable reading research papers, testing mathematical techniques, and turning them into practical solutions that apply in multiple domains (across business areas) 
• Solid experience with common machine learning frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Spark ML 
• Exceptional written and verbal communication to educate and work with cross functional teams
• Great at articulating use cases and benefits of a given technique and solution, ability to drive adoption, evangelize your solutions
