The Algorithm & Artificial Intelligence Internship position provides an opportunity for science or engineering students who would like to get hands on experience working with engineers in a fast-paced R&D environment. You will focus on developing AI solutions that will make our scientific instruments smarter and enable the next generation of scientific discovery. You can expect to gain valuable insights into your chosen career field. What are the exciting things will you be working on? · Prepare and pre-process data for processing with Machine Learning (ML) and/or Deep Learning (DL) Algorithms. · Prepare and curate data for statistical analysis. · Evaluate the effect of various ML/DL architectures on the performance and errors. · Analyze data for specific patterns and understand how to express that in terms of the ML/DL architectures investigated and chosen. · Evaluate algorithm performance. · Create presentations describing the work (typically every 3 weeks) Day in the life:

  • You will be responsible for converting the data from proprietary format to a format more convenient for deep learning training and testing.
  • You will conduct data analysis and visualization and communicate with the team on a weekly (or occasionally bi-weekly basis) about your findings and progress to facilitate group discussion, get feedback, help with decision making, and to build relationships.
  • You will design, train, and tune deep learning models either locally on your computer or on AWS environment.
  • You will have the opportunities to engage with the extended team to better understand the domain technical issues and customer need for fragment analysis.
  • Skills and Abilities Expected ·
  • Strong understanding of, and experience using, ML and DL algorithms. ·
  • An interest in numerical techniques and signal processing ·
  • Proficiency with a software language, preferably Python. ·
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team. ·
  • Make technical presentations to the cross-functional team. ·
  • Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve.

Qualifications

  • Nearing completion of a master’s degree, or preferably far along towards completion of a higher degree (PhD)in the sciences or engineering
  • Proficiency with Python and machine learning frameworks such as Amazon SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning/AI services.
  • Strength with large language models is a plus. Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $14.75–$45.75.
