Location/Division

In the Semiconductor business unit within the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) we enable customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase productivity, and ultimately change the world. The Semi business unit designs, manufactures, and supports a broad range of high-performance microscopy workflows on wafers and single chips that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. We combine hardware and software expertise in electron and ion microscopy with deep application knowledge in electronics markets and our worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to our customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

How will you make an impact?

As an Application Development Engineer for the Electronics Business unit, one will be responsible for creating efficient solutions for customers to make mission critical process decisions with the use of expertly designed workflows and automation software on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s dual beam systems.

What you will do

  • Develop, characterize, and document advanced applications to expand or automate small and wafer dual beam microscope functionality for semiconductor customers.
  • Write best practice documents for small and wafer dual beam applications.
  • Characterize small and wafer dual beam microscopes.
  • Automate small and wafer dual beam and scanning electron microscope applications using AutoTEM/iFast/python/Machine Learning
  • Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions.
  • Provide technical support to assist with all phases of the sales cycle.
  • Cultivate positive customer relationships, clearly communicate customer needs/requirements to key stakeholders, giving in depth technical presentations, and assisting in applications development.
  • Provide customer support and applications training after instrument installation.
  • Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry. or Physics.

Experience

  • 1+ years of experience in a research environment with recent experience utilizing small and/or wafer DualBeam technology.
  • Experience with advanced TEM sample prep workflows with DualBeam is highly preferred
  • Experience in automated TEM prep is Bonus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal aimed at a diverse audience is critical to success in this role.
  • Excellent customer interfacing skills.
  • Understanding of Machine Learning techniques for feature detection
  • Proven ability to interact with cross - functional and cross - cultural teams.
  • Ability to travel both domestically internationally up to 25%; possession of a valid passport is suggested.
